Five levels, and what that does not say

A level is an ordering, not a measurement.

It says band five is harder than band one. It does not say how hard band five is, and it does not let this set be compared with the set next to it — one brand’s “medium” is another brand’s “light”, and there is no scale in common.

Three of the seven sets on this shelf publish resistance in kilograms. This is not one of them.

What the latex claim is worth

One hundred per cent natural latex, stated odourless and skin-friendly.

It is the honest description of what these are: sheet latex, not fabric, not tube. Latex stretches a long way and returns evenly, which is what makes it suitable for the rehabilitation and physiotherapy use the maker names.

Two sets on this shelf are sewn fabric instead, and they behave differently — less stretch, more grip.
